The sport of eventing (horse trials), combines the obedience and accuracy of dressage with the daring of cross-country and the intense excitement of show jumping in a three-part test rather like an equine version of the pentathlon in athletics. In one-day events all of the disciplines must run concurrently, making it a superb spectator spectacle, particularly when the event takes place in the grounds of some of Britain’s most beautiful stately homes.
Five such one-day trials combine to form The Mitsubishi Motors Stately Homes Challenge, a series where riders of Intermediate horses can accumulate points in an attempt to win, and the particularly generous £5000 cash prize ensures that the top names are in attendance.
Spectators can enjoy a great day out at all of the venues, watching potential 2012 Olympians, shopping at the trade stands and even enjoying additional entertainments at some of the events. So this year why not take the family for a day out with a difference?
